David was a member of the club for over 20 years, as an outstanding wicket keeper and middle order batsmen. Whilst in his latter playing years, David became one of Thrumpton Cricket Club coaches (coaching for 11 years) mainly looking after the U13’s and U14’s hard ball cricket. It was down to David’s determination and effort that some of these players have progressed into playing 1st and 2nd XI cricket for the club.
When David finally decided to retire from playing cricket, he was heavily involved in running the clubs 3rd XI along with Paul Burns. David would umpire, do the scoring or sometimes even play if the team was short of players.
David was also heavily involved in the clubs committee, and he would pass a lot of information to the committee from league meetings involving junior cricket that he attended.
Dave battled with his final illness with such fortitude and dignity, so typical of him. His work with the youth team especially has helped to make the Club the success that it now is and that tribute will live on for a very long time. He loved Thrumpton Cricket Club, gave so much of his time to it and as a result of his hard work in every aspect of the running of the club, we now have a Club to be very proud of.
David will be sadly missed by all members of Thrumpton Cricket Club.
