Andrew Footitt - Thrumpton Cricket Club 1976-1995

Andrew, or NOOKY as he was affectionately known, was an all-rounder who scored two hundreds and numerous fifties batting in the middle order for Thrumpton and had best bowling figures of 9-55 against Papplewick. He was known to be a good catcher of the ball especially in the deep. He was introduced to the club by Geoff Shaw in 1976. He met his wife Bronwyn at the club when she was doing the teas and they were married at Thrumpton Church in April 1980. They are still together and live in Clifton.

During his time at the club, NOOKY was an active off the field member. He instigated the raising of thousands of pounds for the club in his role of social committee chairman. He was Chairman of the club for several years and club Captain. Together with his father in law, Walter Pepper, he was general groundsman at the club for a period; indeed, together they won the Nottinghamshire Groundsman’s Institute ground improvement competition which was a very prestigious award. NOOKY was Clubman of the year on a more than one occasion. (Bronwyn also won this award).

In 1995 Nooky left the club to take up youth coaching initially at Ellerslie Cricket Club and then finally with Nottinghamshire Cricket Board County Youth Sections. He was very successful in these roles guiding teams through to National regional finals at club level and later an under 13 Nottinghamshire County side to a National final win at Oundle.

In addition to his coaching roles, Nooky became what was then known as an ACU&S qualified umpire and enjoyed umpiring in the South Notts Village league and for many of the County youth sides. He lectured youth players on the laws of the game at County level.

He was a member of the South Notts League Management Committee for several years from the days of the Village League and was also a member of the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Management Committee for a number of years having many roles surrounding publicity and sponsorship.

Unfortunately, due to ill health Nooky had to resign from his positions within cricket in 2007 and can now be seen visiting the odd match at Ellerslie and indeed more recently at Thrumpton.
