Chairman's Report:
I start my report by thanking our President, Mrs Rosemary Seymour, for her continued support and for once again kindly allowing us to use her home for our AGM. I would also like to thank the Committee for their support, hard work and guidance throughout the year.
I am pleased to report that your Club has had another successful year, both on and off the field. The 1st and 2nd XI finished 3rd and 2nd in their respective divisions. Shiraz Kayani won the batting award for Division J.
Our youth teams also had a successful year. The U13's really blossomed and played some very exciting games in the true spirit of cricket and were exciting to watch. The Kwik programme has had the most successful year ever, with the Shaw team winning their division for the fifth year on the trot, and the Seymour team winning 4 out of their 8 games. My thanks and congratulations go to our coaches, Paul Burns, Mark Priestley and Mark Sampson. As a result of the success of our youth programme, the coaches have decided that in 2012 we will be fielding 3 youth teams in addition to our usual 2 Kwik cricket teams. To this end, we are sending 2 more senior members on the ECB coaching course in March and this is being financed by sponsorship from EON Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station.
Behind the scenes, the hard work to maintain and run the Club has continued. Thanks are due to our Treasurer, Stuart Basford for his meticulous work on the accounts and his sage advice throughout the year, and thank you to Paul Burns who acts as Auditor. Thanks to our Secretary, Steve Pick for all his hard work. Thanks to Steve Weightman who has worked hard on maintaining the ground and preparing the wickets each week, not always a straight forward task. Thanks are due to our Umpires, Scorers, and as always to our remarkable tea ladies, who provide the BEST teas in the County. Thank you to Lynn Priestley who provides the catering for the home matches in the Kwik cricket league, which generates a great deal of income for the Club.
Many thanks to Stuart and Pat Basford for their hard work cleaning the pavilion each week.
Ray Smithson took on the role of Bar Manager this year and generated more income than ever before as a result of his hard work. Thank you, Ray, because without the bar takings the Club would struggle to survive financially.
We have a wonderful new website, which has been the brainchild of Ray Smithson and who along with Mark Sampson have agreed to become webmasters. The website is already generating a lot of interest. Ray is to be congratulated.
This winter, we are upgrading the outdoor nets with the help of donated money and grants. This will improve the facilities for practice night sessions and be an asset for the youth training programme.
For the first time for many years, we are not holding an Annual Presentation Dinner. Instead, we will be holding a Presentation Evening at the Club at the beginning of the 2012 season. We hope this will attract more playing members and award winners.
We have made some alterations to the small metal entrance gate to the ground and it has been designed as a tribute to David Gant. It is already in place and has turned out very well. On the Presentation Evening, this gate will be dedicated to the memory of David, and his wife Linda and other members of David's family intend to be present on that occasion.
Finally, the outgoing Committee wish to propose a change to Rule 6 of the Club Constitution and I will now ask the Secretary to read the proposal to the Meeting.
The Secretary, Steven Pick, passed out a copy of the rule change which reads as follows:-
The outgoing committee has proposed that Rule 6 of the Club Constitution should be amended to create 3 new posts for the incoming committee
Post 1 Club Welfare Officer (due to the Club obtaining CLUBMARK)
Post 2 Kwik/Youth Parent Representative
Post 3 Webmaster (for the new website)
Rule 6 should now read as follows
The Club Committee shall consist of: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Fixture Secretary, Captains of each team, Youth Representatives, CLUB WELFARE OFFICER, KWIK/YOUTH PARENT REPRESENTATIVE, WEBMASTER and co opted Club members (These will be elected annually at the Club's AGM). [If an Officer holds more than one position, other Club members can be elected to the Committee up to and not exceeding a maximum number of 20].
After a floor discussion, the rule was accepted and will be amended in the constitution.
The current constitution is being updated to meet current ECCB standards.
Treasurers and Auditors Report:
Income
The match tax was down by £289.00 due to no 3rd XI.
The Bar profits were up many thanks to Ray Smithson for stocking the bar at the cheapest prices, also to Steve Weightman, Mark Priestley, Paul Burns, Steve Pepper and Rae Shaw for manning the bar.
The annual subscriptions were up £85.00.
Fund Raising is up by £2153.00. A big thank you to all the companies, organisations and individuals who agreed to sponsor the purchase of cricket balls – 37 balls were purchased, and another big fund raiser is the Football Pontoon (which runs over the Winter) which is organised by Steve Weightman – ANYONE IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE AND IF INTERESTED CONTACT STEVE OR ANY MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE.
Also Paul Burns and Mark Sampson on organising and promoting the Race Night held at Gotham Memorial Hall.
Miscellaneous includes BBQ's, food for events and money to buy kit.
Expenditure
Electricity price down by £260.00.
Ground maintenance rose by £4600.00 due to payment for artificial wicket.
Miscellaneous includes buying of kit – the youngsters were very proud to wear identical kit with the Club badge on them.
All in all, if we take the artificial wicket purchase out of the equation, then there would have been a profit made.
Finally, a big thank you to Linda Gant, who ran in the Robin Hood Nottingham Marathon in September, with all the sponsorship coming to Thrumpton CC. I spoke to Linda last Saturday (19.11.2011) and she wished to thank everyone who sponsored her to the tune of £1747.00.
The metal gate at the ground will be dedicated to David and the rest of the money will go towards an artificial wicket and new netting in the nets.
Auditors Report:
Paul Burns commended Stuart Basford on the precise and easy understanding of the accounts for this season. Paul Burns signed off the accounts as a true record.
Fixture Secretary's Report:
Paul Burns commented that the Sunday fixtures were progressing very well with a lot of clubs wanting to return next season. It was decided that the fixture with Rolleston was to be dropped. It was proposed that Burton Joyce be approached for a fixture. Paul Burns said that he would hope all fixtures will be sorted by the beginning of the season.
Captain's Report:
1st XI
The captain was unavailable and no report was issued – PLAYER OF THE YEAR – JOE RICHARDSON.
2nd XI
Another successful season for the 2nd XI as we made it 3 promotions in 3 seasons, although it could so easily have been 3 titles in 3 years. The team began the season well with an easy win in the first game of the season against Edingley. Then back to back defeats had the side thinking that a mid table finish might not be so bad this season, even more so when after 6 matches we had won 3 and lost 3. The team though stuck together though and went on a terrific run, winning it’s next 10 matches and taking us top of the league going into the last game of the season. Unfortunately a defeat in that game to Caunton meant that Lambley were Champions but we had finished runners up. A terrific achievement considering the start we had. Having several senior players retire at the end of last season meant that the 2nds had a slightly more youthful look this season, this meant several of the 3rd team players stepping up and with the likes of Sam Brindley, Connor Brindley and Dre Forbes all coming in for their 2nd team debuts and Dominic Thelen playing regularly and batting nicely in the middle order. It was also good to have Gary Miller back and available on a regular basis. Although not managing to get a big score Jonty Rye’s consistent 30’s really held the middle order together. The main strength of the side this year was the bowling attack of Ben Chadwick, Inam Malik, Kamran Rasheed, Sam Charlton, Shiraz Kayani and myself, who shared the wickets around and bowled very well, backed up by some excellent fielding. One area we where we struggled this season was at the top of the order where we never really had a proper pair of opening batsmen. Despite this the like of Nick Proverbs, Samir Ahmed, Shiraz Kayani, Joe McArdle and Jordan Thelen all contributed with a knock or two. We were also fortunate to be able to have a few first team players in a couple of games and thanks to Joe Richardson, Adam Pick, Khan Forbes and Aravindan Ilangovan who all came into the side and performed superbly. There were some fantastic team performances and some great individual ones as well.
Shiraz Kayani’s 89 against Edingley
Kamran Rasheed’s 92 and 6 for 17 at home against Keyworth.
Samir Ahmed’s 72 chasing down 222 at Hyson Green Carrington Caribs
Gary Miller’s 53 and Adam Pick’s 45 chasing down 212 at Caunton
Sam Charlton’s 44 and 6 for 41 away at Keyworth after being 41 for 7
Although I think beating Hyson Green Carrington Caribs twice has to be one of the best highlights of the season.
Congratulations to Shiraz Kayani who won the Division J Batsman of the year.
Thanks go to:
Dave O’Neal for all his umpiring along with Mark Priestley and Paul Burns who helped out in Dave absence.
Catherine Hutchins and Jack Proverbs for scoring.
Thanks also to Theresa Pick for doing the teas all season and also thanks to Steve Weightman for the preparing the wickets. PLAYER OF THE YEAR – SHIRAZ KAYANI.
Sunday XI
In hindsight, taking the Sunday captain job was a mistake. With my commitments with the Kwik's and the U13's, I couldn't do justice to Sunday's. Having said that all the times I did play and captain, I really enjoyed it. We had some narrow defeats and close victories as well s the odd thrashing along the way. I would like to thank all the players who turned out during the season.
A big thank you to Theresa, Pat, Cat and Liz (the fabulous Thrumpton tea ladies). Thanks also go to Stuart and Steve for scoring and umpiring. Thanks to Fowkesy for taking over as captain when I was unavailable.
As far as player of the year is concerned, it could have been any number of players, Vik, Jonty, Adam, Sammo, Nick. But the one I have chosen, always played with a smile on his face and never moaned – PLAYER OF THE YEAR – DAVID FOWKES.
Kwik Cricket:
Without doubt the Thrumpton Cricket Club Kwik's go from strength to strength every year, and 2011 is no exception. In fact it is arguably one of the most successful seasons in recent years.
Once again Thrumpton Shaw won the league for the 5th year in a row remaining unbeaten. They were also cruising to victory in the Radcliffe On Trent Cricket festival until the good old British weather intervened.
One of the highlights for me was that Thrumpton Seymour won 4 games in a season for the first time since the 90's and finished 4th in the league. An outstanding achievement.
Another highlight was Jack T smashing 50 off 2 overs including 6 x 6's against Gotham.
The club were also invited to Trent Bridge to demonstrate Kwik Cricket before the 20-20 match against Leicestershire. We took a squad of 12 with 8 players with 4 mascots leading the teams out. Every single player & their coaches were proudly dressed in their Cricket Club gear and certainly looked the part, although I got a bit of stick for my running style from a group of lads on a stag night.
It was a great night and one the club can be proud of. I mentioned all of my thank yous at the presentation night in July, but once again thank you to everyone who helped during the season.
Finally the winner of the SHAW trophy was Stephen G, a worthy winner whose loyalty to Thrumpton knows no bounds.
Youth Cricket:
For the 2011 season it was thought by the youth coaches that we should enter a side into the Nottinghamshire Youth Cricket League Under 13s Super 8s as this would give our players a far better chance of playing competitive cricket as well as a good chance of winning games.
This strategy worked well and I have to say we were all impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm of our Under 13 youth players. Out of the 8 league games we won 5 finishing 2nd in the league.
We also organised 5 closely fought End of Season friendlies 2 against Kegworth, 1 against Radcliffe on Trent and 2 against Long Whatton with Thrumpton winning 3 out of the 5.
As the season progressed it was very pleasing for the coaches to see a good team spirit building and for the players to also play their games with a similar attitude. Umpiring the games was a real pleasure listening to the lads attempts at "Sledging" the opposition and to see their confidence grow in their own ability to win games.
Also well done to Jake B for the mature way in which he carried out his role as team captain.
I would also like to comment on the teams performance in the field.
The pre season training helped to improve our bowling and batting skills with the coaches also concentrating on improving our players fielding ability in all areas. This would be very relevant when playing in the Super 8s and it was with some satisfaction when umpiring seeing our lads out perform the opposition in the field.
Their performance in the field was also commented on to me by the opposition coaches who often said how much better we were in the field than their own players.
Finally I would like on behalf of the coaches and players to say a big thank you to Lynn Priestley for scoring, Steve Weightman for preparing our grass wicket, Ray Smithson for opening up the pavilion and running the bar.
Last but not least all the players parents for their commitment and support throughout the season it was much appreciated.

AOB:
Ivan Adkin asked if the Club was restarting the 3rd XI for 2012, it was explained that due to a shortage of experienced players the Club was running 3 youth teams (U12,U13 & U15) to keep hold of junior players and feed them through into the Sunday XI with a possibility of starting up the 3rd XI for season 2013.
Mark Priestley said that kit details were being posted on the Club Website
